Rare footage of uncontacted rainforest tribe facing genocide from loggers

Clear footage has emerged apparently showing a member of a Brazilian indigenous tribe out hunting in the Amazon rainforest.
The member of the Awa tribe – many of whom remain uncontacted – spotted the camera as he was being filmed in the northern state of Maranhao by a member of the neighbouring Guajajara tribe.
He holds a machete in the rainforest before appearing to sniff the blade then looks towards the person filming him.
Seconds later he and other members of the tribe carrying spears run away.
Advertisement AdvertisementThe video was released yesterday as activists warned that the group could be about to be wiped out as a result of logging in the area.
Survival International say the tribe have frequently been attacked by loggers who have been given new confidence because of the pro-business president Jair Bolsonaro.

The footage was actually shot last August but issued this week to help raise awareness.
