Comey's comments come after a chain of racist tweets from Trump remaining month aimed at lawmakers of colour and within the fast aftermath of a mass taking pictures in El Paso, Texas, the place a white supremacist killed a minimum of 20 other people in a shopping center -- certainly one of two massacres via gunmen in the US in lower than 24 hours. Earlier Sunday, Trump tweeted, "God bless the folks of El Paso Texas. God bless the folks of Dayton, Ohio," and, one by one, ordered American flags to be flown at half-group of workers as "a mark of solemn admire" for the sufferers of the tragedies.

"Each American president, knowing what lies deep inside our us of a, bears a singular accountability to mention loudly and persistently that white supremacy is unlawful, that encouraging a politics of racial resentment can spawn violence, and that violence aimed toward other people via virtue of their pores and skin color is terrorism," Comey wrote. "Our president thinks he's doing something clever. He lifts the keep watch over rods for a calculated and deeply cynical objective: to harness the political power unleashed," Comey says. "it'll warmth his re-election bid, he most probably thinks. But unconstrained, it is going to injury the nation, in all directions. Best fools believe they may be able to experience the gamma rays of hate."

Induced by way of the shootings in Dayton, Ohio, and El Paso, Texas, Democrats used in a similar fashion pointed language to describe Trump on Sunday. Democratic presidential candidate and El Paso native Beto O'Rourke instructed CNN's Jake Tapper Sunday that he views Trump as a white nationalist.

"The things that he has stated both as a candidate and then because the President of the U.s., this cannot be open for debate," O'Rourke stated.

The President introduced that "perhaps more has to be performed" to address gun violence," but he did not cope with questions related to white supremacy.

Comey ended his op-ed with a choice to action for Trump, writing that the President holds "the largest keep watch over rod of all."

"you have to push it again into position, for all our sakes. The vast majority of usa citizens imagine the core beliefs of our founding documents and we think our culture to mirror the ones ideals," he wrote.

"Show us you believe in them, too."
